If you see the history of great musicians they came from very low profile families and at the last stage of their life they were on top. Thanks to music. So there is noting wrong for taking music as a profession.

1. Be a teacher : Yes, you know the music, there are lots of people who are looking for a person who can teach them music, so be a teacher and in this way you can help others in learning music and also this can prove a good marketing tool for you.
2. Be Social: If you are interested in performing in social events then first of all go social, get a website or blog for you. Be there on all social networking sites with basic idea that you are there for promoting yourself.
3. Advertise yourself:  Find all the websites which list and promotes the musicians and get listed there without wasting time. These sites generally requires a simple registration.
4. Get a team:Get your own team or form a band. In this way you will be able to compete most effectively. Say there are 5 members in your team then all will be working together in above said ways then all these approaches will become 5 times effective. Moreover your fan base will also increase and most importantly your contacts will increase which will help you to get money.    
5. Never Give Up: Its true that when we are a first level of our carrier its a bit frustrating sometime as we lack resources, we lack money specially.
